When it comes to shipping oversized transports all over the world, Hellmann Project Cargo is a competent solution provider. With systematic organization and innovative solutions, our Project Cargo Team in Spain offers the full spectrum of project logistics – from multiple cargo handling, technical and engineered solutions such as completely customized transfers of plant and machinery to management of multimodal movement of over-dimensional and heavy equipment for clients in the mining, energy, infrastructure, wind, petrochemical and oil & gas industries.

Just recently, we were nominated by ADELTE, the leading manufacturer of airport finger bridges and seaport passenger boarding bridges, to organize and operate the transport of two giant passenger boarding bridges from the port of Barcelona, Spain right to the tourist heart of Sydney, Australia.

Each component of these two passenger boarding bridges has been produced at the ADELTE´s factory in Monzon, Catalunia. Piece by piece, we transported each section to the port, where they have been fully assembled and loaded onto the specially chartered cargo vessel.

One of the biggest challenges was to load the various low-loaders on time at the production site and to meet the tight time window at the Barcelona terminal for the final assembly and loading onto the charter ship. Not an easy task, because the passenger bridges are  20 meters high, 40 meters long 10 meters wide and weigh 130 tons each. Loading, therefore, required a great deal of sensitivity, especially as the cranes at  Barcelona terminal had to be maneuvered with only a few meters of clearance.

The cargo deck of the Cargo Vessel also had to be equipped with custom-made steel girders in order to balance the center of gravity as well as possible. With the help of two rented special cranes at the terminal, the passenger bridges could be completely assembled and loaded ready for the crossing to Down Under just in time.

Within 40 days, the cargo finally reached touristic circular quay terminal of Sydney. Watched by hundreds of passers-by and tourists, the passenger bridges were finally professionally unloaded and reached their final destination right in front of the famous Sydney Opera House.
